[net.bizarre] Turtles on the net

cly@cbdkc1.UUCP (Carl Yaffey) (08/19/85)

If you are NOT a turtle, this won't mean a damn thing to you. Hit
your "n" key now.

The Turtles are slowly replying to me in the proper manner.
Those of you who replied with abbreviations (ybysaia) and
asterisks( A**) owe me a St. Pauli Girl at the Short
North Tavern in Columbus, Ohio.

At last count, there are 20 real Turtles (that are on
the net AND read net.bizarre).
There are a couple of "mock" turtles (don't know the
proper response, or have it wrong).
By the way, if anyone would like to
become a Turtle (and deem themselves worthy), I still remember
the initiation ceremony.

To the person who thinks I owe him a drink because he
got the response right: you must be a mock turtle!
We didn't do it that way back in Virginia in 1958.

I'm always amazed at how wide-spread this thing is, and how
long it's been around.

And, yes, I'm told it's VERY sweet!

For those of you that are confused "turtles" are people who wear
those shirts with bizarre animals on the chest... like alligators (IZOD)
foxes, and wombats.

When someone asks you if you are a turtle you should respond:

No, I only shop at Sears.

If you respond with the letters :

	"I" "Z" "O" "D"

you are a "mock turtle" and owe the asker beer at a local tavern.

If you tell the person asking the question to go eat goat manure they
owe you a pound of goat cheese.

P.E.K.

Sure! Why not have a net-wide Turtle initiation, for that matter? After all,
there have been marriage ceremonies performed via Email...
