Since we've been on the subject of weird (or appropriate) place and street names, I'll offer a few I've found. 1) Washington state boasts the town of George, Washington. Yes, it comes complete with Martha's Inn and apple pie. 2) I one saw a street in Santa Monica, California that was named "Ozone St." 3) Los Angeles has a street called "Normal St." Would somebody please explain this to me? I like L.A., but I don't think there's anything normal there. 4) There are no "exit" signs from Heathrow Airport in London, nor on the London Underground. All the appropriate signs say "way out." Is this a comment on somebody's state of mind? 5) Lastly, there's my favorite town in all of British Columbia -- Spuzzum -- which has its "entering" and "leaving" signs on either side of the gas station there. ...always in search of that next sign....paul -- ...."You're never alone with a schizophrenic."

It's somewhere in the center of the state. -- Back on the freeway, which is already in progress, Allen Grabert (...ittatc!bunker!allen)

Sigh. After reading seemingly hundreds of not so bizarre place names, and swearing not to do it i posted one, then just read another which reminded me of one of my favorite place names on earth. Banalia, Haut Zaire, Zaire (approx 1.5 degrees north, 25 degrees east, just north of Kisangani). Such a dull (YAWN) place. Ironically, Banalia was the scene of a major massacre during the Simba rebellion in Zaire (then the Republic of the Congo), so wasnt at all banal, at least then. I promise i wont do it again -- at least not till the next time. -- O -- jefu tell me all about -- UUCP: edison!steinmetz!putnam Anna Livia! I want to hear all.... -- ARPA: putnam@kbsvax.decnet@GE-CRD
