This posting made me think of another truly humorous piece of mistranslated instructions, my favorite example. I posted this in net.consumers awhile back, so I apologize if you've seen it before, but that was long before net.bizarre was created... it belongs better here. The following are the introductory instructions for a Japanese-made line printer, the opening paragraph that describes its many features. This printer was purchased just after it began to be sold in the US; I'm told the manual that contained this has since been rewritten in original English. I've changed the model number of the printer in order to not embarass anyone. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling, with the exception of the fictional name "ZZ-298", are exactly as they appear in the manual. The excellent output machine of MODEL ZZ-298 as extra- ordinary DOT MATRIX LINE PRINTER, built in two MICRO- PROCESSORSs as well as EAROM, is featured by permitting wonderful co-existence such as; 'high quality against low cost', 'diversified functions with compact design', 'flexibility in accessibleness and durability of approx. 2000,000,000 Dot/Head', 'being sophisticated in mecha- nism but possibly agile operating under noises being extremely suppressed' etc. And as a matter of course, the final goal is just simply to help achieve 'super shuttle diplomacy' between cool data, perhaps earned by HOST COMPUTER, and warm heart of human being. -- Shyy-Anzr: J.
