*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** While on vacation this summer, we saw the following sign just east of St. John's, Newfoundland on the TransCanadian Highway: Moose-Vehicle Collision Study Experimental Brush Clearing Also, the famous town of Dildo, Newfoundland (and the water wonderland of Dildo Run). In Indiana, there's Hindoostan Falls (maybe 2 drops of one foot or less each. California's Gold Rush country (east of Sacramento and Stockton) boasts colorful names such as Grizzly Flats, Copperopolis, Chinese Camp, Moccasin and Sheepranch. Not bizarre but confusing collection of suburbs such as Park Forest, Forest Park, Oak Park, Oak Forest, Oak Lawn, Oak Brook, Park Ridge, Woodridge, Wood Dale, Riverside, River Grove and River Forest. An unusual name for a beautiful place is Banff, British Columbia, Canada. B.C. also boasts Kamloops. We look forward to some other delightfully bizarre things in this newsgroup. > An unusual name for a beautiful place is Banff, British > Columbia, Canada. Beautiful, yes; British Columbia, no. Banff is in Alberta. Here's a bizarre place name for you: Stewart Valley, Saskatchewan If you've ever been to Saskatchewan, you know why it's bizarre. -- Shane McDonald (ihnp4!sask!mcdonald)

>................. An unusual name for a beautiful place is Banff, British >Columbia, Canada. B.C. also boasts Kamloops. While Kamloops is in B.C., Banff is in Alberta. Two of my favorite town names in Alberta are Medicine Hat and Rocky Mountain House. As for Wanker's Corner, Oregon, it really exists. It is about 3 miles North of Wilsonville and 1.5 miles east of Tualatin. Tualatin is another interesting name. It is a Twality Indian word meaning "slow moving" and refers to the river that runs through town, not the lifestyle of the inhabitants. -- Dave Williams Tektronix, Inc. > We look forward to some other delightfully bizarre things in this newsgroup. > > > Scott & Beth Pector > ihnp4!ihuxw!pector That was bizarre enough already. I have heard of how some parents name their children before they are born, and so end up with a name of the wrong sex, or choose a name that can fit either sex like "Lee" or "Jody," but I never saw anyone who had a spare name just in case before. Doesn't that beat all. -- Shyy-Anzr: J. > >................. An unusual name for a beautiful place is Banff, British > >Columbia, Canada. B.C. also boasts Kamloops. People who read Pogo in the 1950s know that the proper name for Banff is "Bamf", named for an unfortunate accident when Howland Owl mistook a football for a pumpking while giving lessons in his school on "how to pump a pumpking". This is also the origin of the aforementioned Killer Bees. Howland is still running Kamloops all over the place trying to escape them. -- Shyy-Anzr: J.
