Back when I worked at Parts, Inc., I noticed a new product being offered in the company vending machines. I didn't think I would care for them, but a co-worker of mine bought some to try out. The product was called "Nut Crunchies," and consisted of some kind of bland cornmeal shell shaped as a hollow sphere, enclosing a bland nut of some kind. She couldn't stomach them, so she gave them to me. I couldn't swallow them either, so I gave them to my boss, who also couldn't stand them. We went around to everybody we could find in the company to see who liked them, because we were going to give the package to the first person we saw who could eat them. I mean, these things were AWFUL! We couldn't find anyone who would take them. We finally got a brilliant flash of insight: we left the package on the desk in operations for the night crew to eat. Sure enough, the next day the package was gone. The night crew would eat anything. In fact, they probably threw away the nut crunchies and ate the package. Anyone else out there ever try Nut Crunchies? To give you an idea of the taste, try this recipe: Take one stale corn chip. Soak in water for one hour or until all taste is gone. Put an almond in the middle and wrap the corn chip around it. Allow to dry. Salt lightly. Try to eat. My father-in-law, who used to stock some of these machines, says that vending companies occasionally try these new products to see if they will sell. Has anyone else gotten a hold of one of these "experimental" snacks? I would like to hear. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Kirby ( ...!ihnp4!akgub!cylixd!dave) (The views expressed herein are the exclusive property of Dave Kirby. I swear that they're doubles for those weenie-in-a-blanket dog treats. Monica
