Hey people what is all the fuss about the election for? I could understand if one could find a significant area in which the two major parties differ but so far they seem like mirror images of each other. Conservatives in Canada are liberal compared to conservatives in (say) the United States and under Turner the Liberals are fairly middle of the road too. They are both pledging to keep social programs intact, beef up defence spending, let free enterprise rule, and so on. Both leaders in fact seem to like avoiding coming out with any hard predictions. The differences between Turner and Mulroney governments could probably only be measured by a micrometer. Having said all this I intend to vote Conservative. Not because I don't dislike Turner but because he seems to have the same old Trudeau crowd hanging around (not all of them got plush jobs!). I feel that a change in government could benefit us by having Ottawa shook up by a new crowd. I, like probably most Canadians, just want a change. Not that it will make a difference ... (Hoping the government in September won't cause me to be that cynical) -- Bruce Freeman University of Toronto {decvax|harpo|ihnp4}!utcsstat!bjf
