<Continuing the ongoing discussion of politics...>
I thought I'd sum up the "gaffes de semaine". Perhaps we could even have
a "Flying Fickle Finger of Fate" type award.
I understand that PET's flying fickle fingers are idle at the moment...
Turner: <Theme song, "New Boy Now!">
First Mr. Turner promises a whiz-bang new program for employing our
youth. Then he unveils an old British plan that has failed there and
has met with moderate success at best in Ontario over the past 3 years.
[Token Constructive Comment:
Why not unveil another plan similar to one already implemented
in Ontario? Namely, for every NEW position created for a young
person (why restrict???) the government will foot 33% of the cost
for up to 3 years. This creates new jobs (by definition) and it
allows companies a fairly cheap form of apprenticeship. Someone
reading this in Liberal Party Headquarters is welcome to contact
me for further discussion.
]
Secondly, Mr. Turner hires a brand new campaign manager to manage his
distinctly new group of Liberals. After all, if any minor criminal can
be up for parole sometime, why shouldn't Keith Davies.
Lastly (since I want to keep this ?short?), Mr. Turner fires someone who
then tells the press he quit over mismanagement and confusion. He
certainly sounds confused to me. I wonder who to believe???
Mulroney: <Theme Song: "Theme from Jaws">
Brian got caught by "The Journal" with his foot planted very firmly in
his mouth. On camera, during a press conference slated to discuss the
recent Economic Council reports, Brian stated that in no way had he ever
promised to implement his proposals immediately. CBC then casually ran
a clip of a similar conference less than a week earlier where Brian
repeatedly used the word "immediately". And I can use a quote there since
that is exactly the word. Such a consistent liar for such a nice looking
young man. It's a good thing he speaks French.
Crosbie has still not come forward to clear up the $20Billion figure.
I suspect he Liberal "Game Show" commercial may have a point for all
that it is valueless. Could the Conservative Party be due for a major
blood-letting? Just where is Joe Clark anyway? (Rumour has it that he
is visiting Jimmy Hoffa...I sure haven't seen his mittens anywhere.)
Finally, does anyone have an explanation why Mulroney will not
cost out his programs. They all seem fiscally irresponsible to
me and I would like to hear reasons why they might not be. The latest
(Liberal sponsored) figure shows that Mulroney has already promised
over $7Billion and it is barely August.

<Who would you vote for? The attractive young man in the
Blue suit who is lying to you and not doing a good job of it,
the attractive older man in the Pinstripes who can't tell new
from old, or the unattractive old man who would take all your
money and give it away with no visible return??? Personally,
I say we should have a write-in campaign for Mary-Lou Finlay!>
