Martin Taylor believes > ............. it is surprising that the higher one's educational > attainment, the more likely one is to vote NDP. The less educated > one is, the more likely one is to vote PC. Sure Martin, I guess that's why those guys that put the cars together in Oshawa ( also known as the UAW ) are strong supporters of the NPD. I seem to recall ( though I could be wrong on this one ) that Robert White, who is president of the Canadian arm of the UAW is vice-president of the NPD. ( Again note that I am not 100% sure about this one ) I seem to also recall that the UAW is officially endorsing the NDP. From what I can gather almost the opposite is true. I have never seen any statistics but I continuously hear of the Progressive Conservative party being labelled by the media ( though what do they know ? ) as the party of the well off and WELL EDUCATED. Personally I have come to the conclusion that the more theoretically inclined a well educated person is the more likely he/she is to be a NDPer, and the more practically inclined a well educated person is the more likely he/she is to be a PC. This hypothesis is somewhat supported be the fact that engineers are typically right of centre. And in my own experience here at UBC I find that of those people I have discussed politics with, on average the sytems people lean to the right and the AI people to the left ( My apologies to any here at UBC who take exception to my generalizations ) Basically, I think it is fair to say that the unions support the NDP, and that professional types support the Tories or the Grits. I bet there are not a lot of practising lawyers who are NDPers compared to those that are Tories or Liberals. ( ditto for doctors ) I think that you would also find that Libertarians in general are more educated than the average person and they make the PCs look like socialists ( which they to some extent are ) J.B.
