[can.politics] Bailout of Failures

brad@looking.UUCP (Brad Templeton) (08/24/84)

Laura hits the nail on the head with this one. The $20M given to the
failing factory is not $20M that came out of nowhere. As laura says,
the $20M could be spent elsewhere, by giving it back to the public.

But it isn't just one way of spending money vs. another. The factory is
a PROVEN FAILURE. Now how many sane people think they can better their
financial state (and in the country, that means the economy) by constantly
taking money away from your good investments to buy up failures?

Now you say the workers need their jobs for a healthy economy, and of
course an economy where everybody is working is better, but not if people
are working on useless things. Then their work is of no value to society
and should be disdained. If fact, if you disdain selfishness, you should
denounce the greed of factory workers who put the survival of their own
jobs over the good of society. It's bad enough that the government takes
our money for good projects like research, but it's intolerable that they
take it to support failures who are even more selfish than I am.
