* One can argue that it is none of the business of the ordinary citizens what their elected officials ( and wives ) do on their own time. I think that to some extent that is true. BUT, when that person does something outrageous ( e.g. Trudeau giving the people of Salmon Arm the one finger salute; Ronnie joking about nuking the Soviets ) then: a) It probably tells you something about how that person REALLY thinks, and b) Because of a), the people have a right to know. That still leaves one with the problem of deciding at what point an act becomes newsworthy, as opposed to just being a cheap shot ( e.g. Joe Clarke's missing baggage, and several incidents involving John Turner). That, I think, is a matter of opinion ( like politics ) and can be argued until doomsday ( like politics ). J.B. Robinson
