[can.politics] Colin Thatcher's Trial

Attention Saskatchewanites! Can any of you tell me when and where
Colin Thatcher, the former Saskatchewan energy minister, is going
to trial for the Joanne Wilson murder? It should be sometime soon,
as I recall. Since leaving Saskatoon, I have not heard much about
it.

The trial should be rather interesting. A friend of mine read the
transcripts of Thatcher's preliminary hearing and told me, "He's cooked!"
Apparently they reveal that Wilson was not such a savoury person either.
It will also be interesting as to whether the whole mess causes any
damage to the Devine government as well.

Wouldn't you know it...on the day when I finally give up hope that
anything will be printed about the Thatcher trial and I post to the
net for information, the Globe and Mail prints a fair-sized story
telling me that the trial will start on Monday, Oct. 15, and will
be held in Saskatoon (not North Battleford, as I had heard before).

My curiousity about the political effects (if any) of the trial
and the interesting scandals it may bring to the surface is still
there. The Globe and Mail tells us that there will be a pack of
reporters from Canada and the U.S.(!) at the trial, so there should
be no problem finding out what happened.

(I hope can.politics is the appropriate place to discuss this.
Thatcher was a powerful politician and the son of a former Saskatchewan
premier, so I chose this newsgroup.)
