One important issue which has not been raised is that of whether SDI research results will be classified or not. President Reagan has suggested that these results could be shared with the Soviets. However I have not heard anything as to how he intends to proceed toward this. I feel that if SDI research is classified, as most current military research, the pro-SDI rhetorics is seriously undermined. In this case, how can one sustain that SDI is directed toward reversing the arms race? It would only make the other side's weapons obsolete. If the results are going to be shared, then why not do it right from the start? Anybody has information about policy statements about this? Aside from this, I tend to agree that defensive weapons might be useful given a drastic reduction in the number of offensive weapons. But the current drive does not link these issues, and is thus clearly destabilising. Yves Lesperance utcsri!utai!lesperan
