[can.politics] provincial affairs

Anyone from BC care to send details of the Haida vs. Logging
company conflict? Is the general public for or against the
logging companies and their logging rights? (Do they care?)
The impression I get is that the BC gov't is handing out logging
rights on one hand while selling "Super, Natural British Columbia"
on the other hand.
Meanwhile in Ontario, there is a small- to mid-size scandal over the
LCBO's allowing the sale of wine which contained more than the accepted
limit of carcinogens. Some experts have said that even if a person
drank a bottle of the suspect wine each day, that person would be less
likely to get cancer than someone who smoked a pack of cigarettes a day.
It's ironic that the LCBO is chastised for having let these wines go
on sale while no one thinks twice about those who smoke a pack a day.
It's highly unlikely that people guzzle a bottle of wine every day but
there are many who take the risk of smoking an entire pack (or more).
I realize those who bought the wine were not aware of the risk
whereas those who smoke are constantly reminded of the danger to their
health but it still seems ironic.
