In article <4895@corona.UUCP> kain@cognos.UUCP () writes: >On the front page of today's Citizen (Dec 20, 1988) stated the Federal Govt. >plan to move the Ottawa Space Lab (David Florida Laboratory) to Montreal and >the expected cost is $200 million. > That's not what it says. What it DOES say is: "The Conservative government MAY move PART of a mammoth space-age test laboratory from the Ottawa area to Montreal..." (emphasis mine.) The statement, attributed to Science Minister Frank Oberle, is followed by several more paragraphs of speculation as to where the new federal space agency will be located. The article further says: "In an interview Monday, Oberle said the government wouldn't carry out a 'wholesale' move..." The last sentence of the article is pure Citizen speculation, and reads: "Moving it all to another city would cost the taxpayers roughly $200 million, sources say." This, in spite of Oberle's statement that the government would NOT move it. The Montreal Gazette today published the following: "Science Minister Frank Oberle has denied that part of a space laboratory will be moved to Montreal from Ottawa. "Responding to a report in the Ottawa Citizen, Oberle said he had speculated only that five management workers at the David Florida Laboratory might be relocated if the government chooses Montreal for the new federal space agency. " 'That's hardly saying that parts of the operations would be moving to Montreal', Oberle said." It'd be nice to have a decent newspaper in this city. >During the election campaign, the Conservative Party claimed they constitute >a more efficient government. Is it efficient to spend $200 million taxpayers' >money in such an unjustifiable way ? First of all, is there any solid proof etc... It's a good idea to read carefully, especially if one is reading the Citizen, before getting too involved in attacking something. And ESPECIALLY important to read carefully before voting. -- Tim Dudley Cognos Incorporated (613) 738-1440 3755 Riverside Drive, P.O.Box 9707 uucp: uunet!mitel!sce!cognos!timd Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K1G 3Z4 "It's a damn poor mind that can think of only one way to spell a word."
