As everyone else seems to think "Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers" is a very good satire on SF adventures. I didn't like "Bill, the Galactic Hero" quite as much though. Another Harry Harrison satire in the same vein is "The Technicolor Time Machine". In this book a down and out inventor with a time machine nobody wants meets a movie producer who has to make a Viking epic in less than a week.
