I thought Irving's "Hotel New Hampshire" was great -- my wife didn't like it. I loved Robins' "Still Life With Woodpecker" -- she couldn't finish it. We both enjoyed "Clan of the Cave Bear," but thought "The Valley of Horses" was awful. She loved "Thornbirds" -- I found it a chore to finish. People can be "compatible" and still have widely differing tastes in books. As a matter of fact, it's those differences that often make a relationship interesting. Harmony doesn't necessarily mean agreement. However...how about some comments about "Woodpecker" from others who've read it? Anyone feel that there's similarity between Robins' style and Pynchon's? (I don't, but I can see why someone might.) Mike Lynch mhuxi!macrev
