[net.books] Library of America

port (04/08/83)

For any/all bibliophiles out there, I must mention the Library of
America which is now being published to present textually complete
compendiums of great American writers. The books are excellently made and
are reasonably priced. For example, I found the first 8 volumes (the only
ones published so far) on sale for only $17.50. (List is around $22, I
believe.)
The books are up to 1000-1500 pages. I have gotten the first Melville
volume (Typee, Omoo, and Mardi), Whitman (first and last editions of Leaves
of Grass and all prose writings), the first Twain/Clemens ("Mississippi
Writings"--Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Life on the Mississippi), etc.
     I strongly recommend these books.
