[net.books] Suggestions

Count me as one of the many individuals who don't like
to read science fiction reviews or discussions in net.books.
My reasons are simple:

1. There is net.sf-lovers. If you don't like that group for
any reason, just bombard it with your sf reviews.

2. I read news offline. No 'n' key for me, just a lot of paper
that I don't want to read.

A friendly suggestion: if you must post an sf review in net.books,
add some keyword to the title like SF, or sf so that my keyword
filter will detect the article easily and dump it before printing.
I'm sure other people in the net will appreciate it, besides me.
Example:

Subject: review of 'the computer that went mad' - sf

On another topic, I also would like to recommend Borges, not
only his fiction, but his essays. About one year ago I read
(in Spanish) a collection of essays on metaphors in ancient
Celtic and Northern cultures, fascinating for its many examples
and somewhat surprising conclusion. This work was co-authored
with another scholar (forget his/her name) and I don't know if it's
available in English.

I also recommend other Latin American authors like Garcia Marquez,
Vargas Llosa, Julio Cortazar, and Pablo Neruda (poetry) all of
whom I'm sure have English translations. Try them if you want
to read something different, intellectually stimulating (at least)
and highly creative.

Don't toss SF book reviews off of net.books! I'm an avid science
fiction fan and since my system doesn't support net.sf-lovers, SF
book reviews on net.books is the only place I can get Sci-Fi!

I picked up a copy of Life, the Universe, and Everything
last November, and read it thouroughly. Your book store
must be a real turkey.

Unfortunately, for me, LTUAE was not very enjoyable, when
compared to the first two of the Doug Adams trilogy. I missed
the frequent references to the Guide, as well as the really
funny play on words that Adams seems to be real good at.

I hope that these first three books don't form a baseline
on which to extrapolate the fourth book from. In that
case, since I'd rate these three at 8, 5, and 2 (on a 1-10),
the next book will be a negative 1! (Will they pay us to buy it?)
