[net.books] Paperback Price Flame

bam (04/24/83)

The price of paper backs is getting quite high here but I was
overwhelmed at the price for the same books in Australia. Just
about across the board the prices were double.

In answer to this problem there, I saw quiote a few 'swap shops',
where you could trade what you had for another. Usually 2 for 1.
They differed from used book stores in that you *must* trade. You
could not just purchase outright. Not only that you had to stay
within category. i.e. you could not exchange a Western for an
adventure type. The exception was SF. If you had SF you could
trade for anything.

If you MUST trade in these paperback swap shops, how on earth
do they make any money? They would just end up with a lot
of books...
