These are the other William Golding books that I have read. *The Inheritors* is one of the best "science fiction" books around. It describes life from the point of view of a member of a dying breed (Neanderthal or something), and his clan's encounter with the up-and-coming breed (Homo Sapiens). Short but very dense. Recommended! *The Spire*: Monomaniacal priest works to get an enormous church spire constructed. Slow and unrewarding, as I remember. I only finished it because I'm stubborn. It's probably out of print. I got my copy at a used book sale. Unless some Golding scholar tells me otherwise, I will assume this book is not worth cracking again.
