Hermann Hesse is like Ayn Rand - hmmm - interesting comparison. Their styles *do* have a lot of similarity, and I do like both of them (the writing, anyway). Having semi-superhuman heroes is fine by me - gives the works a touch of the fantasical, which I like. "Realistic" writers are SO boring; they never seem to come up with new ideas. Where is the sexism in Magister Ludi? Do you mean the very minor role that women play in the story? Perhaps Hesse was making a subtle point - lack of women's participation in intellectual pursuits doomed civilization as a whole... stan the l.h. utah-cs!shebs
