Fantastic. Wonderful. Evil.

"The Land of Laughs", by Jonathan Carroll, is about a man who wants
to write a biography of Marshall France, an invented children's author
on the order of L. Frank Baum or Maurice Sendak. This book is about
children's fantasy. It starts out "straight", and becomes a fantasy
horror story; but in a way that is very original.

I found it in the Science Fiction area.
Read it.

Is this the Jon Carroll who writes a column in the San Francisco Chronicle?
