To all informed parties (particularly Canadians): I'd be interested in learning about Canadian history (particularly from the Canadian point of view). I have read little about it; primarily what's in encyclopedias and what is told in conjunction with US history. Could you recommend any university-level Canadian history texts written in Canada? The length can be up to 1200 pages and the text should cover from whatever is considered the beginning to the 1970s or, preferably, the 1980s. On one of my three vacations in Canada, I saw on TV in AB or BC that there was some dissatisfaction with the standard histories written in Ontario. It was felt that they were too Americanized. Some guys out in British Columbia were doing their own version to give it a more Canadian flavor. Also, I understand that there is some differences as to how Louis Riel (is the name right?) is viewed historically. The little I know about him has been picked up on TV while in Canada and from Canadian contributors to the Net. One more point. If you suggest a version written in Quebec, please let it be in English and not French. I know some French from high school and primary school courses, but it would take me forever to read a complete history book written in that language. Spare me from that fate! It also just occurred to me that I would need to know where to order the book from (publisher name, city where publisher is located, or bookstore where I can get it) since any "Books in Print" listings I have seen in the US only identify books published in the US. With the above information, I'd be able to call the appropriate place. Thanks, Scott Pector
