[net.books] inquiry, Little Prince

Sounds like the book you refer to is "The Little Prince", which
I believe is a French novel (Le Petit Prince). I originally
read this book during a high school French class. It is not
as short as a short story, but it is definitely on the small
side. I can't quite remember the author's name...I want to
say Saint-Saens, but he was a composer.

As for the details: the way I remember it, the prince lived
on a little planet all alone, save for his Rose. He came to
visit earth and saw many un-nice people before seeing the Pilot,
who had crashed in the desert (Sahara?).

I guess I wasn't clear. I meant that it was NOT the story of the
prince from another planet with the rose (which, by the way, I really
like - I have it in german, but haven't read that version of it).

The story is about a prince who cannot walk, is locked in a tower, and
flies around on a magic carpet.

Thanks to any who might have read or heard of it.

The author is St. Exupery, and the may qualify as a fable
rather than a short story. It's fun to read in french, English,
or German. St. Exupery is a tremendously reactionary author,
but in this particular work of his, it's possible not to notice
his political point of view too much among the general cuteness.

Rene,
I think your book is "The Little Lame Prince." At least that's what it sounds
like to me. Great book for kids! Really brings back the memories!

This has nothing to do with the prince with a magic carpet, but the
author of "le petit prince" is Saint-Exupery.
