[net.books] Quality Paperback Book Club worth it?

drv@eisx.UUCP (Dennis Vogel) (02/16/84)

Has anyone had any experience with the Quality Paperback Book Club?
It seems to me that they have very liberal rules about dropping
out when you wish. The books, however, seem to be fairly expensive
when compared to regular paperbacks. I guess compared to hardcover
books they are more reasonable, though. Any experiences that you'd
care to relate would be appreciated. Post to net or mail to me.

A few years back I tried out the QPB (Quality Paperback Book club)
and didn't really like it. I found their selection both too limited
and to "popular" for my taste. The best book I bought from them was
Sagan's "The Dragons of Eden." I finally discovered why I wasn't to
thrilled - of those books they carried that I liked, I usually liked
them enough that I'd prefer them in hardcover, whether they be for
reading (like Dragons) or for coffee table (like "Connections").

I tend to read alot, but I must admit that 80% of it is Science Ficton -
that's the books (I get about 20 mags and journals a month. A real
pain when I relocate!) My tastes do run too much towards these clubs,
no matter what they're selling.
