The story "True Names" was written by Vernor Vinge and was published in Binary Star #5. It was copyright 1981. The other story in this book was "Night Flyers" by George R. R. Martin. The book was published by Dell Publishing, Inc. Hope this helps you find it, it was an excellent story.

I and several other readers have been trying to locate a
copy of "Binary Star #5" and Vinge's short novel for near to
2 years now. I originally borrowed it from a friend who has now had
his copy lifted by an enthusiastic reader. (sigh) Can anyone
point us to a bookseller that might have this (if only one copy)?
