Discussion in net.chess reminded me of a really delightful book: "My One Contribution to Chess," by F. V. Morley (Stewart, New York, 1946), which is probably out of print long since. It's 10% about chess and 90% autobiography. The author was the brother of the writer, and son of the mathematician who discovered Morley's theorem; the father was a fine chess player. The book is only about a hundred pages long, but is beautifully written and presents a charming picture of family life around the turn of the century. You occasionally see copies in used bookstores; it's well worth picking up if you find one.
