[net.books] BOOK COLLECTING - NEED BOOKSELLER CATALOG SOURCES.

mvg@afinitc.UUCP (Mark Grieshaber) (05/04/84)

Does anyone else out there collect books? I have gotten to the point
where the technique of casual inspection of used bookstores (though
pleasurable) does not turn up my specific needs. So... does anyone
have addresses of favored booksellers who issue catalogs? You know
(hopefully) what I mean: catalogs of specific books, issued weekly,
biweekly, monthly, etc. They are often mimeographed or staple bound.
My interests are pretty varied, but my current specific needs are in
the areas of early explorations, travel adventure, science fiction and
fantasy, and biography. I used to have subscriptions to several decent
booksellers catalogs, but I let them lapse and lost the addresses.
If there is any interest, I will gladly summarize to the net. Thanks!

The International Book Collectors Directory lists Booksellers by
specialties (Pegasus Books, POBox 1350, Vashon Island, WA 98070).
The AMERICAN BOOK COLLECTOR (bimonthly) lists pretty much all the
recent catalogues that have been issued (274 Madison Ave., New York,NY
10016). These are pretty good to start with. Once you get listed and
known in the business, you will be showered with catalogues, but it
takes a while. Also dont forget British booksellers who tend to be
somewhat less expensive (though there are exceptions).

P.S. Any other book collectors out there interested in exchanges of
information etc.???
