[net.books] Carlos Castaneda and Hunter S. Thompson

I am currently reading the 7th book in Carlos Castaneda's series about his
studies under the Yaqi sorcerer Don Juan Matus. The title is The Fire from
Within and it is currently available in hardback from simon and schuster. I
think this is the best of the last three in the series (The Second Ring of
Power and The Eagle's Gift). In it Carlos back tracks to the time before the
Nagual Don Juan has left this world to give up his glow of awareness for
consumption by The Eagle and explains the portion of his teachings that were
conducted on the left side of Carlos' awareness, which he couldn't remember
until his *will* was properly developed. The book fills in a lot of gaps
concerning the path of the warrior and his ultimate destination. I haven't
finished the book yet so I don't know if Carlos has left an opening for yet an
8th volume. I would be very interested in corresponding with anyone else on
the subject of this system of knowledge.

P.S. I would also like to communicate with any students of Gonzo Journalism
that might be on the net, or for that matter, with any body that has read any
or all of Hunter S. Thompson's books. I would recommend that you read or
reread his Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72 as the parallels
between that race and the current one are legion - e.g., A republican
incumbent, an initially large field of democratic contenders that narrowed
down to three by convention time, the participation of Gary Hart in both, etc.
