The musical 'Cats' is based on T. S Eliot's 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats', published, I think, in 1939. Does anyone know whether this is an an anthology of his poetry or essays or if it is indeed a complete book? Is it available, and where? MEL ihuxn!tfilm 840530.1326

The book (a rather slim volume it is, too) was re-released by Penguin (I think......) with the recent success of CATS. gtaylor

At your local public library! If your local branch doesn't have it,
they can probably get it for you from an affiliated library. Here in
New jersey, most libraries have pretty good county libraries, and
the local town libraries have access to those books for you; I believe
they also can get them from other county libraries. I'm amazed at
how many of my reading friends think the public library is just for
their kids.

Is still in print in both hard and soft cover and very likely to be found in used book stores as well. The publisher for all of T. S. Eliots stuff in the US is Harcourt Brace & Javonovich (tch?). There have been a number of editions. In England, the publisher is (naturally) Faber and Faber. It is a set of verses (light, delightful and rather isightful into the joys of cats) written by Old Possum (ie T. S. Eliot) and they have always been published as a set of verses in book form. There are no essays or other extraneous things like serious poetry. The musical cats is not based on OPBOPC, it is (plus a few extra bits) OPBOPC. Old Possum probably is still laughing at get a Tony for his light verse. Enjoy - they are marvelous bits of light verse.
