Rene Steiner, there are no books you ought to read, but here
are some good ones which qualify (or nearly so) as classics.

Books by Anthony Powell, especially the 12 books in
"dance to the music of time", which should be read in order.
the are drily funny.

Books by Muriel Sparks, most of which are amusing tho some are
downers.

Books by Henry Green.  Again some are downers, but most of the
books whose titles end in "ing" are comedies.  I especially recommend
"living" and "concluding".

"Lucky Jim", by Kingsley Amis.
