[net.books] Why there are so few book reviews here

Over the last week (admittedly not an average one, what with holidays and all),
the following topics appeared in net.books on my system:
	Modesty Blaise books (2 items)
	I.B.M. Dictionary
	Anti-pornography ordinance (4 items, cross-posted from net.movies et al)
	DUNE (the movie)
Change ringing books (cross-posted from net.music)
	Sayers' mysteries
	Jetsons novels (cross-posted from net.sf-lovers)
	HACKERS
	HIGH SPIRITS (cross-posted to net.sf-lovers)
	THE TALISMAN

My conclusion is that hardly anyone reads any more. Since we brought netnews
up on my system October 15, there have been only 50 items here, as compared
with 790 in net.politics, 520 in net.religion, 320 in net.movies, 84 in
net.tv.drwho, and 175 in net.sf-lovers (which, by the way, often has book
reviews). I guess people are too busy watching TV or movies to read. I know
Donn Seeley did a long article on Borges which got exactly one response--mine.

If you want to see more book reviews:
	1) post them.
	2) send mail (the 'r' key, please!) thanking people for them if you've
		found them interesting.
	3) read net.sf-lovers if you're looking for SF book reviews. I try
to cross-post the ones that are of general interest (like
HIGH SPIRITS), but I confine the straight-line SF to
net.sf-lovers. Coming soon--a review of Brunner's THE CRUCIBLE
		OF TIME.
