Don't sell Speer short either!  His "diaries" are calculated to arouse
sympathy for him.  A recent book about Speer gives much evidence that
Speer was just as cruel, greedy, and power-hungry as any other high-
ranking Nazi.  (It also mentions that at Spandau he had champagne and
caviar smuggled in regularly.  He even complained once that the caviar
was not fresh, and that it was not to be permitted to happen again.)

Can anybody identify the book?  It was reviewed in the NYT Book Review
a few weeks ago.
