[net.books] Children's books

Paul Dubois has recommended a children's book and it put me in mind of
a book that I read my children when they were young and in need of
stories and fantasies: Carl Sandburg's "Rootabaga Stories". These are
stories that Sandburg made up for his kids, Spink and Skabootch. The
stories are whimsical and wise, touching and funny. They have a lot of
the sense of language that Sandburg shows in his poetry. I first came
upon them as a teenager when my girl friend read them to me. These
stories are worth your time.

Later, when my girls could read, we read aloud "The Princess Bride".
This too is a fanatastic book, which I would recommend to an older
audience.
