Since this discussion looks like it may be around for a while, I may as well put in my two or three cents: When I bought the book, it was only in hardcover. I read the whole book, even though I didn't understand a lot of it then and now, six years later, I forgot a lot of what I read. The thing is, it took so long for me to read that if it had been a paperback copy, it would have been in pieces by now. Although the Biology, Mathematics, Philosophy, and Physics may not have been presented as well as some might prefer, I thought the case that these disciplines were inextricably intertwined was made well. I don't understand the complaint that the book was more difficult to read than many textbooks. A lot of books are more difficult to read than most textbooks. James Joyce said it took him nineteen years to write Ulysses, and he thought people should spend as much time reading it as he spent writing it. Even though the writing style was swollen at times and too cute at others, I'm still glad I read the book. -- Bob Kaplan "...and the pantaloon duck, white gooseneck quacked: webcor, webcor."
