Quick summary: A senator is appointed chairman of an Intelligence subcommittee to try and figure out the connection between terrorism and narcotics trafficking. His work pits him against the FBI, CIA, Russians, Mafia, and fellow senators. There is, of course, the obligatory love interest (the senator is divorced and his ex's dad is out to get him, too.) with a committee staffer. Just when he's getting a handle on things..... (OOPS, don't want this to be a spoiler!) My view: The two authors are (real) US senators and certainly their descriptions of the legislative/political skullduggery is more realistic than many other authors would be. Its a good premise for the story; plot is reasonably intricate, not overdone like Ludlum's. Character development could be better, especially the 'supporting characters'. What bugs me about this book is that it has a lousy conclusion--the reader is simply left hanging. Sure, there's a denouement, but its not appropriate to the rest of the story. In my humble opinion, the authors simply got tired of writing, and wrote a quick (and unsatisfactory) ending. Recommendation: If you read all but the last 15 pages, you'll like it. -- Ted Koppel : University of Denver Penrose Library : 303-871-3429 {boulder, cires, cisden, denelcor, hao, nbires}!udenva!tkoppel {bilanc, csm9a, elsi, koala}!udenva!tkoppel
