[net.books] Can You Identify...

"Winter came early that year..."
Can anyone identify the novel which begins with that sentence or
sentence fragment? A librarian relative asked me after digging
through a large selection of books.

I haven't seen any answers. Anyone find out?

There is a short story called "Too Early Spring", it is about two teenagers
who discover romance at a young age. I'm not sure who the author is, but
I recall that the first paragraph started with "Spring came early that year . . .".
If the story/novel that is being referred to by the original poster is about
adolescent romance, I'll look through some anthologies that I have for
the exact title and author. Let me know.
