It came to me last night in a moment of sernedipity . . .
THE KEY TO RICH ROSEN!!!!!!
I had fallen asleep on the couch clutching only my Lugar and my Teddy when
as if from the cave of the Deli Oracle I heard the voice of Lex Luthar
(my hero!). You see, the telly was going full bore with the movie Superman
since I had cut a deal with my eldest daughter to the effect that she could
stay up and watch it if she got up on time the next morning with a smile -
I know, I know, I hated to take advantage of her like that but if she is ever
going to learn to be clever (beauty AND brains being so rare in the weaker
sex, don't you think?) I'm just going to have to train her to get by with
more than being cute.
Anyway, in my semiconcious state I heard the voice of Lex, over that of Rambo,
(my other hero!) and as soon as I realized where I was and that Lex was real
and Rambo was not, it sunk in to my brain what Lex had just said. He had said,
"Some people can read Tolstoy's WAR AND PEACE and come away thinking it was a
great adventure story and some people can read the wrapper on a piece of gum
and discover the meaning of the universe." AND THEN IT HIT ME!
Rich Rosen had once submitted a book review to net.books on THE NAME OF THE ROSE
and called it a 'only a great adventure story'!! I recalled feeling shock and
pity at the time but Lex really pulled it all together for me!
Rich, dispite his name, is not Jewish - but a Philistine!!!!
So one more piece in the big puzzle falls into place, I thought, as the three of
us slipped back into the jungle with Rambo.
