[net.books] Dune books vs. movie

I was largely disappointed with the screen play of DUNE.
I reread the book just before I went to DUNE,
to make sure I wouldn't miss anything. To anyone who went to the movie but
hasn't read the book, READ THE BOOK!!! :-)
If you liked the movie you'll LOVE the book, and if you thought the movie stank
you still might love the book!

There are about three reasons I was disappointed with the movie -
it was even more violent than the book,
the only emotions adequately represented were hate and anger,
and it tried to cover too much of the book in one movie.

While the book created a real world with real people capable of the
depth of events and feeling that our reality has,
the movie was true only to the surface of that world and its inhabitants.

It was a great set and the costuming was terrific,
but the actors were allowed only to reveal a shadow of the book's characters.
It was alot like illustrations in a book, nice but not enough.
