> Could someone please tell me who wrote the children's book, > David_and_the_Phoenix? I've tried many times to "respond by mail," as Ms. Polichar requested, regarding this query, but since I have not received any acknowledgement to my repeated attempts, I must conclude that the messages are not getting there. So I will post the answer here. _David_and_the_Phoenix_ was written in 1957 by Edward Ormondryod. It was published by Follett Publishing Co. This is, incidentally, an important example of the "mortal mentor"* genre, of which the movie "Harold and Maude" is another example. Many other stories contain similar subthemes, but this one is unique in that the mentor act- ually is immortal, yet is still lost in the end. *This term was employed by the late James Slicer Purcell, and applied to Southern Literature. -- Shyy-Anzr: J.
