[net.books] 'Passion Week'/Ghana

joyceb@ptsfc.UUCP (J. Black) (10/08/85)

I am reading "The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born" by Ayi Kwei Armah. The
author makes several references to 'Passion Week' which I have not been able
to understand. It seems rather like an event that occurs more than once a
year. Can anyone shed any light on the subject? Thanks in advance.

P.S. (to Frances Rosen) - you posted some titles a few weeks ago and I have
been very impressed with what I've read (everthing I can find by Bessie Head!).
Thanks.

yeah, the symbolism in TBOANYB is overpowering ( pun intended ).

My favorite scene involves the one where mr. politician ( can't recall the
name ) is reduced to the chichidodo, a sad animal that hates the smell and
touch of excrement, and yet gains a living by eating the maggots ot of it.
