[net.books] MAIA, by Richard Adams

It's not bad, not great. Takes place in the same universe as his
previous 'Shardik', but much earlier. Has a couple of interesting
characters. Got some enjoyably salacious but cartoonish soft-focus sex.
Good book for a vacation - no serious drama/conflict/message/theme/prose
to speak of. And a bit syrupy - missing some of the enjoyably doomy
pessimism that Adams can do.

For a really good Adams book, try 'The Girl In a Swing'. Gave me the
heebie jeebies for days.
