[net.religion] But Jeremiah prophesied about the new testament

dyl (02/08/83)

Jeremiah 31:31-33
"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because
they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,"
declares the LORD. "This is the covenant I will make with the
house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will
put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will
be their God, and they will be my people."

Do not be offended by the New Testament nor the Old Testament, for Jesus
said:

Matthew 5:17-18
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the
smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any
means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

If anyone can generate a prophecy that refers specifically to a man who
would be born on 4 BC, never have sex, throw money changers out of the
temple, die by crucifixtion (sorry about the spelling), come back to
life in visions to various disciples,..., and which can be proven not
to refer to someone born in the year 2415 who through intelligence,
beauty, charisma, and personality convinces the world to lay down their
arms and work together following the law of God as a great community
and will destroy the will of his opposition to oppose him through sheer
force of personality will have shown evidence that the old testament
prophesizes christ. (Note the 25th century person might die at the
hand of fanatics in any way you want) Any takers?

Ps this 25th century person can have any other properties that do not
contradict the above.

PPs this is a result of the fact that in order to make their argument
stick, the prophecy must refer to Christ and only Christ (otherwise
they can take as support any prophecy which contains "There will come a
man who ...")
