[net.religion] What use is tolerance if you KNOW the truth

geo (03/11/83)

You guys really scare me!

I have been reading this group since its inception,
and my overwhelming impression of the CHRISTIAN
contributors has been of their strident ignorance,
and ethnocentric intolerance.

I would really find it reassuring to hear from christians
who don't believe every word of the Bible is literally true;
who don't find it incomprehensible that someone could have
different religious beliefs than themselves; who are not
interested in forcing me to live according to their beliefs.

C'mon folks, you have to be prepared to be judged by the
company you keep. You can't tell the players without a
programme. How are us non-christians going to tell the
difference between polite, neighbourly christians and
the Christians would agree with the statement "What use
is tolerance is you \know/ the TRUTH", if you don't explain
where \you/ stand.

Please.

P.S.
"Strident ignorance", and "ethnocentric intolerance" are
harsh words. I didn't chose them lightly. If you don't
like those phrases, please respond to me, not the net.
