I would like to respond to Don Winsor, Brent Taylor and a host of others who seem to think that Christianity is a blight on the earth. For a background, I don't think that I am a fundamentalist who ignores the evils of the world, I certainly do think for myself. I am not a religious fanatic, I happen to believe the following: "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not parish but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." So, what is my reaction? First, I am active in a church (Lutheran). I teach Sunday School, sing in the choir, play my instrument for special occasions and the like. (Note: this is out of thanks to God for the salvation that He offers, not because I am better than somebody else.) Second, I offer anyone who will listen (or read) the news of salvation and Jesus Christ. I deplore the things that were wrong that were done in the name of Jesus Christ such as the Inquisitions, murder, persecution, and the like. People sin. Forgiven Christians sin. Forgiven Christians do not always live as we are taught to live as Christ himself wants us to live. In that respect, we are hypocritical. (Boy, am I going to get plastered on that one, from BOTH sides!) I pray that these few sentences will give a little bit better understanding of the average Christian.
