One interesting item which came out of CSNET's POLI-SCI digest was that the difference between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. was that the U.S. claimed to have freedom of's (religion, speech, etc.) whereas the U.S.S.R. claimed to have freedom from's (poverty, ignorance, hunger, etc.) It seems to me that numerous religious fundamentalists have something fundamentally in common with one of their opposition (U.S.S.R.), namely, freedom from. Freedom from pornography (Utah), freedom from being taught evolution, etc.
