[net.religion] Freedom and Religion

tom (03/30/83)

One interesting item which came out of CSNET's POLI-SCI digest was that the
difference between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. was that the U.S. claimed to
have freedom of's (religion, speech, etc.) whereas the U.S.S.R. claimed to
have freedom from's (poverty, ignorance, hunger, etc.) It seems to me that
numerous religious fundamentalists have something fundamentally in common
with one of their opposition (U.S.S.R.), namely, freedom from. Freedom
from pornography (Utah), freedom from being taught evolution, etc.
