It is amazing how non-christians abandon logic when they set out to "prove" Christians are silly. My classic example is an article I read in New England some years ago. The basic thrust of the article was explaining some noted New England authoress's works based on the insecurity caused because her father was a devout Christian. In the midst of the article was a story told to illustrate the problems caused by the father's faith: It was in the middle of a fierce winter storm and the family was running low on wood for the fire. A neighbor knocked on the door and said that he was out of wood, could they spare some? The father gave the man most of the remaining wood. The mother protested that they would all freeze to death, the father said "Don't worry, the Lord will provide." [ Now, since we're out to prove that the father's faith damaged the little girls security, we would expect them to run out of wood and shiver through the rest of the storm. So the story concludes: ] A little while later a stranger knocked on their door. He said "I was taking a load of wood to Boston, but the snow's so deep I can't get there. Would you like to buy my wood?" So they bought the man's wood and lived warmly ever after. Boy , it takes a lot of blind faith to believe that story proves the point the author was trying to make.
