[net.religion] Quote, character assassination, and historical corroboration

Quote from tekmdp!dadla!dadla-b!hutch:

"Thanks, Yigal, for once more presentiung (sic) us with rhetoric and flames
that far surpass anything resembling rational intelligent discourse".

Is this the same Hutch who was trying to debunk the debunkers of the Bible's
historical accuracy a couple of weeks ago? Hutch, I suggest that you stick
to the issues, and submit future character assassinations to net.hutch.

Concerning the lack of historical corroboration for the existence of Jesus:
In a previous submission, I mentioned that I had read that there were around
thirty people who lived in the vicinity of Jesus during his lifetime whose
writings survive today. In all of these writings, there is no reference to
this man, Jesus. Since no one has presented any evidence to the contrary, for
now I will have to operate under the assumption that Jesus is a myth.

I am not assassinating Yigal's character. I am assassinating (ridiculing,
actually) the text which he put on the net. If it bugs you that I could
find something to ridicule in the tract that Yigal posted, which was about
the most vindictive, ill-stated, one-sided piece of propaganda I have ever
had the pleasure to chuckle at, then your sense of humor is dangerously
weak. Incidentally, having exchanged several letters with Yigal, I am
of the opinion that we may never totally agree on several issues which I
think are important, but that when he isn't trying to deliberately irritate
some group or other (as with the pamphlet he quoted onto the net) that he
is relatively polite and is in the process of growing into a reasoning
and mature person (a lifelong task for most of us).

Incidentally, Jon, if it really bugs you that much, send me private
mail or stop by my desk, I don't bite, and it saves us from having to
discuss things in public that really aren't of generral interest.
