[net.religion] a new subgroup proposal

done (04/27/83)

Here's a suggestion that I hope may improve things in this newsgroup.
Why don't we create a subgroup "net.religion.christianity" (or perhaps
something a bit less ponderous like "net.religion.bible") and move all
the raging discussions related to Christianity into it? Then some of
the other interesting topics such as Zen might have a chance.

Nothing against the ongoing discussions, but there's a whole lot more
to the subject of religion than simply Biblical contradictions (some
of the postings on that topic are large enough to be put in net.sources).

Any comments or opposing views?

Might be a good idea, if we didn't have the 14-character name limitation.

Besides, I find the information about other religions and life-philosophies
to be very interesting and I would hate to see the contrasts and interactions
they generate, go away.

Not afraid to admit to a strong liking for a zen koan,

If we are to split net.religion, let us split it into

net.religion.holy-war -- Where people try to shoot down other folks beliefs
net.religion.scholar -- For scholarly discussions of beliefs, practices,
                          history, and the like.

This is NOT a joke! Anyone placing an article in the wrong group would
be subject to the tortures of the Inquisition.
