[net.religion] 'REPENT, SINNERS!'

Bob Langdon has given "The Word" to Tim Maroney:

"A fool does not delight in understanding,
But only in revealing his own mind." Pr 18:2

"The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable,
But the mouth of fools spouts folly." Pr. 15:2

"The fool has said in his heart, `There is no God'" Ps. 14:1

"For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire,
And the greedy man curses and spurns the LORD.
The wicked, in haughtiness of his countence, does not seek him.
And all his thoughts are, `There is no God'." Ps 10:3,4

Bob, if I were a fanatic I could call you a "fool" and deem you "wicked"
as well, but that would serve no purpose except to show my own immaturity.
Ad hominem arguments are for people who have nothing else to offer--the
fact that they come out of the Bible does not alter their intellectual
paucity.

	Listen Tim:
"...It is appointed for men once to die and after this comes judgment,"
	Heb. 9:27

"And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world,
and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds
	were evil." Jn 3:19

"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not
obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
	Jn 3:36

Listen Bob: your religious beliefs have power over YOU and those who
believe the things you do. They mean nothing to those who don't, except
as interesting psycho/cultural institutions. Many religions rely heavily
upon fear and guilt, which they try to cast on the unbeliever. Speaking
for myself, Christian threats of eternal damnation are merely another
expression of the emotional need that spawns their beliefs in the first
place. I don't lose any sleep thinking about the flames of Hell.

Again, these are the types of tactics one would expect from someone who
has nothing constructive to offer in an intellectual interchange.
